About Nike Air Jordan 1 Lows
The Air Jordan 1 Low is a lifestyle sneaker from Jordan brand that first debuted in 1985, as a casual take on Michael Jordan’s first iconic signature shoe, the Air Jordan 1 High.
The Air Jordan 1 Low was originally released in several colorways that mirrored the Air Jordan 1 High release including Bulls inspired and metallic colorways. The Air Jordan 1 Low returned in the 2000s and has seen several retro releases since then.
The popularity of the Air Jordan 1 Low has coincided with the very similar Nike Dunk Low, which both saw a boom in popularity from 2019. Despite launching in 1985 at the inception of the Air Jordan line, the sneaker has since largely deviated from its original design. “NIKE AIR” branding on the tongue has commonly been replaced with the Jumpman logo, while the brands iconic wings insignia has moved from the ankle tab to the lower heel. OG versions and special editions of the Air Jordan 1 Low, however, feature the same details as the 1985 releases.
Recently, collaborations with the likes of rapper Travis Scott and high-end brand Dior have only further boosted the appeal of the shoe, making it one of the most popular low topped sneakers on the market.
From 2021, Jordan brand seemed determined to return the sneaker to its 1985 form without relying on collaborations. The release of the documentary “The Last Dance” only boosted this determination, as Jordan brand rode the wave and dropped several OG colorways as well as new bold colour designs, catering to men, women and children.
The Air Jordan 1 Low has become a staple lifestyle shoe for all demographics and will without a doubt continue to surge in popularity, particularly with the new movie “AIR” coming out in April 2023. The AJ1 Low has also become a staple within the hype fashion community, due mainly to their broad range of colours that match with other hype clothing brands like ADLV, BAPE, Supreme and FOG Essentials.
