The Lance Mountain x Air Jordan 1 Retro SB QS pays homage to Pasadena Pro Skater Lance Mountain wearing an Air Jordan 1 ‘Royal’ sneaker on his left foot and a white/Carolina blue Air Jordan 1 on his right in the 1987 skate video The Search for Animal Chin. The Jordan was popular among West Coast skaters at the time because of its durable leather, substantial ankle covering, and Nike Air technology. Skaters used mismatched pairs of Jordans to extend the life of their shoes, occasionally painting them the same colour to create an unified effect. The Lance Mountain x Jordan 1 SB revives this DIY aesthetic with black/red and black/royal colorways that incorporate a coat of white paint that fades away with each ollie and flip trick to produce a design that’s unique to the skater. The sneaker was released in limited quantities in June 2014 as part of a two-pack that included a black-painted hue.
