If we are talking about name dropping, it seems that pretty much anyone who’s anyone has collaborated with the brand Chrome Hearts at some stage. Originally founded in a Hollywood garage in 1988, Chrome Hearts now have a production site spanning three blocks in the middle of Hollywood with multiple buildings and factories around the world.
The iconic Chrome Hearts logo contains a cross with the brand name around it on a circular ribbon. The Chrome Hearts brand are primarily recognised for their clothing such as t-shirts and hoodies, accessories, furniture, leather products, and eyewear. The brand’s first task was a costume design for Chopper Chicks in Zombietown, co-starring the girlfriend of Steve Jones, the lead guitarist of the Sex Pistols. Chrome Hearts was founded by Leonard Kamhout and John Bowman and Richard Stark, with Stark taking the name of the brand from the working title of that movie.
Chrome Hearts introduced a collaboration with The Rolling Stones in 2002 featuring the band’s iconic “Lips and Tongue” logo. From there the collaborations kept on coming.
In 2007, Chrome Hearts collaborated with Comme des Garçons on a range of jewellery and clothing. 2009 brought BAPE (A Bathing Ape) and Chrome Hearts together for a range of t-shirts.
In 2010, they joined forces with the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation and Rick Owens for a shoe design. The shoes featured various silver embellishments. In 2010, they worked with Rick on jewellery and sneakers which were shown at Paris Fashion week.
Chrome Hearts collaborated with the late Virgil Abloh on many occasions. From t-shirts, hoodies and even with Abloh alongside Louis Vuitton, hosting a fashion show at Chrome Hearts New York branch.
When Bella Hadid was a teenager she used to visit the Chrome Hearts factory in LA and eventually collaborated with the brand on a 40-piece apparel and accessories collection in 2017. The Chrome Hearts x Bella collection was shown at Paris Fashion Week and was sold exclusively at Selfridges London. Bella’s sister Gigi Hadid has modelled for the brand as well.
In 2020, Chrome Hearts collaborated with Drake for his Rolls-Royce Cullinan which was displayed at the Miami Institute of Contemporary Art. After that they worked together again to release a collection to promote Drake’s album Certified Lover Boy. This collection was limited and was exclusively sold in the Chrome Hearts Miami store.
From 1988 to present, Chrome Hearts are a long survivor in the streetwear fashion scene and Kickstw in Melbourne, Australia are proud to carry the Chrome Hearts brand in store.
