The classic Air Force 1 Silhouette is a go-to for all ages. There’s nothing like a fresh and crisp pair of all white Air Force 1’s.
The Air Force 1 originally made its debut in 1982 as a basketball shoe. This true classic has been consistently worn throughout the years and has been one of the best-selling sneakers of all time.
Originally only made as a high-top, the Air Force 1 had integrated the ‘Air’ technology, implementing soft and “springy” cushioning in the shoe, ideal for playing on the court. The shape of the shoe drew inspiration from hiking boots and gave the Air Force 1 its signature chunky sole. The sneaker mainly featured white and neutral colours, however later released many other colour variations with team colours. The Air Force 1 Low was released after the high-top version and is now a basic staple in many streetwear enthusiasts’ wardrobe.
Nike was able to create a legacy with this sneaker, as they kept releasing an extended collection of this shoe with different colourways, making it clear that is a perfect canvas for creative collaborations. Subtle variations of the shoe began to release changing the outsole colour to a gum brown, blue and also all black colourway.
The popularity of this shoe exploded into a greater demographic as it made its way into the hip-hop music scene. The ageless sneaker has a special place in many people’s hearts due to its versatility and availability, creating a strong and wide fan base for the shoe. Nike depended on this to build the hype of this shoe further as they temporarily withheld the supply of the Air Force 1 in the 1990’s, creating more demand for the shoe and making it a more exclusive pair to get hands on.
As the Air Force 1 became a part of the hip-hop culture, it has since collaborated with many artists and paved the way for even bigger collaborations that we see today like Supreme, Louis Vuitton and Off White. The Air Force 1 needs little to no introduction as the shoe has made a name for itself with minimal advertisement and marketing, other than the original campaign featuring NBA stars Moses Malone ad Mychal Thompson.
Now the Air Force 1 has a plethora of colourways, but the all-white Air Force 1 Low will forever have its place in history
