Nike created the ‘Banned’ campaign around the sneakers as a marketing strategy to introduce and promote the Air Jordan range. In 1994, 2011, 2013, and 2016, the sneaker was re-released. The ‘X’ on the heel of the 2011 pair was a nod to the ‘Banned’ moniker.
